National Society of Colonial Dames of America – Minnesota Chapter

Patriotic Service

The National Society of the Colonial Dames of America sponsors patriotic service programs focusing on promoting respect for the people, places, and events that led to the formation of our country and inspiring the patriotism of our fellow citizens through citizenship and flag programs and service to the military.
  • Citizenship programs. Many state societies host citizenship ceremonies for children and adults. NSCDA has developed a U.S. Flag History DVD to support teaching and learning about our flag. Many state societies--including Minnesota's--support National History Day, a program through which more than a half million students throughout the country research a historical topic and present their work. Dames societies also provide scholarships to the Colonial Williamsburg Teacher Institute. To learn more about these programs, click here.
  • Flag programs. NSCDA supports flag programs and provides information on flag etiquette and flag flying.
  • Service to the military. NSCDA has made a nationwide comitment to involvement with the Library of Congress Veterans History Project. Dames societies spearhead service projects across the U.S., including support for VA hospital patients, packages and letters for active duty military, USO airport lounges, and more.
In Minnesota the Dames sponsor two prizes for MInnesota History Day entries in the area of American Colonial History and provide judges for the competitions. Minnesota Dames' patriotic service also includes collecting and donating items needed by Minnesota Veterans Home residents.
